contemplating the sky on the summer solstice

In twilight’s glow, the solstice sings,
Equal hours, as balance brings,
Left and right in perfect stride,
Dark and light, side by side.

Yin and yang, the ancient dance,
Night and day in balanced trance,
Stars and sun, a fleeting kiss,
Harmony in a moments’ bliss.

Opposites in silent truce,
Boundaries fade, their lines diffuse,
Summer’s peak, a pause in time,
Whispers soft in rhythm’s rhyme.

Halfway point, a cosmic nod,
Nature’s grace, the hand of God,
Day and night, in even share,
Solstice breathes its tranquil air.

Tree Langdon, thank you for inspiring me to write poetry again. A friend and poet got me started a while ago and I wrote some in high school under the guidance of a wonderful English teacher. I’m not a very speedy poet.

One of my favorite quotes about poetry is from William Wordsworth’s Lyrical Ballads, “Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”
