The Student

It was happening again; that was his first thought when he woke up. He had been at this school for a little over a year and had been doing well in all his classes. For one reason or another, he missed an assignment or one of his classes; he didn’t know which. Now he was having difficulty going to his classes or doing any of his assignments. It seemed almost as though he didn’t care about what was happening to his grades and his future. But he did care.

When JT first went away to school, he loved it. The school that accepted him was a small engineering college that took a lot of work to complete the application process. He didn’t worry about being accepted because he had excellent grades in high school. Of course, high school was a different environment, and he never worked hard for any of his grades. Being away from home at school was fantastic for him. He loved meeting all kinds of new people. At this school, he was a new person; no one here had known him before, and he knew he could be anybody he wanted to be. If you wanted to find JT, all you had to look for was somebody else on his floor who wasn’t studying. It appeared he never studied; he was always sitting in the lounge or talking to somebody in their rooms. It seemed almost comical to see him helping people with their homework, and then he wouldn’t bother to do it himself.

He was a great friend to have. He would do anything for somebody. He was a fantastic listener and always there if you needed any help. You could count on him if you needed cheering up before or after an exam. No one ever really noticed…
